The three thematic treatments applied to each answer or a word in the clue were: (1) adding a C, (2) replacing the word with a homophone and (3) anagramming it, in each case making a new word. The treatments related respectively to the slogan “See it. Say it. Sorted.”, which was launched in November 2016 for a security campaign by the British Transport Police. (Any punctuation, or none, in the slogan entered below the grid was accepted.) Applying the three devices to the puzzle’s title gave “call for care”.
