Puzzle explanation

The extra letters in the jumbles from asterisked clues spelt out “French wines”. The top and bottom rows of the grid read FIND A BOTTLE AND A WINEGLASS. Tracing BEAUJOLAIS and BURGUNDY formed the shape of a bottle in the upper half of the grid and BEAUNE and BORDEAUX similarly formed a wineglass in the lower half.
