Puzzle explanation

The altered answers were jumbled with one letter discarded, to form the name of a composer as the grid entry. The title, similarly altered, became COMPOSERS, with R discarded. The corrections to misprints in the unaltered answers’ clues spelt “sort discards into two more …” (composers). All the discarded letters, including the R from the title, formed SCHUBERT and SCHUMANN.
