The puzzle’s themes were the Glorious Revolution that overthrew King James II of England (James VII of Scotland) in 1688, and the Spanish Glorious Revolution that deposed Queen Isabella II in 1868. The extra “words” from clues gave “moving whole columns, advance 180 years; highlight event”. When initially filled, the grid’s top row contained SIXTEEN EIGHTY-EIGHT and row 7 contained GLORIOUS REVOLTUION [sic]. Correctly rearranging the columns changed the top row to EIGHTEEN SIXTY-EIGHT and produced GLORIOUS REVOLUTION in row 8 and PACT in row 5.
