The message, initially advanced by three places alphabetically, was “Turing decoded Enigma in Hut Eight, Bletchley Park, using Bombe” (his name for the decoding machine). Unscrambling UNGIRT to TURING, MOB BE to BOMBE and GAMINE to ENIGMA produced new words in the crossing entries. In WWII, the Allies sent false messages to mislead the enemy into expecting D-Day attacks concentrated at CALAIS rather than Normandy.
