Puzzle explanation
Corrections to misprints in clues spelt “diameter is inside a circle”. A circle of RADIUS ONE (the diameter highlighted in the grid) has an AREA THREE POINT ONE FOUR ONE FIVE (the highlighted circle), if π is truncated rather than rounded to 4 decimal places.
The puzzle was published on what has come to be known as “pi day”, as in US format the 14th of March is 3/14, the initial digits of π. In fact this particular day had an instant where the month, day, abbreviated year and time represented π exactly, ie, 3/14/15 9:26:53.589793….
