Corrections to the clue misprints spelt “une nation de boutiquiers” (a nation of shopkeepers), as Napoleon is said to have described England. Answers clued without definition were shopkeepers (in French), entered in the grid in English. The grid shape represents part of Britain, with straight lines through TAILOR and BARBER marking England’s borders with Scotland and Wales. Shading of the unused cells in any colour, or none, was accepted.
