Paul Wittgenstein (1887-1961), brother of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, was an Austrian concert pianist who lost his right arm during the First World War. He subsequently commissioned a number of composers, including Ravel, Strauss, Britten and Prokofiev, to write piano compositions for the left hand only. All occurrences of R, RT or RIGHT were removed from clue answers before entry in the grid. The title means “left” in German.
