Puzzle explanation
Extra words in across clues were respaced to read “Kinder abandon homes, pursuing performer”. Answers to the other across clues had German children’s names removed. The names appear in order in the bottom rows, where they follow (in a snaking motion) the PIED PIPER “out of” the grid. Corrections for misprints in the down clues spelt out the German title of The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
