Puzzle explanation

Letters omitted from answers spelt out “Henry V, act three, scene one”, a reference to Henry’s rallying speech to the English troops at Harfleur in the Shakespeare play. It ends with “Cry, ‘God for Harry! England and St George!’” which appears in the grid in the form of the red bands of the flag of St George. The unused first and last letters from extra words in clues spelt out “Shakespeare date of death”, as Shakespeare died on St George’s Day (and was possibly born on it). The clues were written in iambic pentameter.
