Corrected misprints in clues spelt “Sum of clashes and misprints”. Solvers were thus to add the numerical values (A=1,27,53; B=2,28,54; etc) at each clash cell of the clashing letters and the misprinted letters as they appeared in the relevant clues. This is shown in the table below.
Across & Down | Clashes | Misprints | Addition |
---|---|---|---|
1 & 4 | S + E | co(R)set + curle(W) | 19 + 5 + 18 + 23 = M |
10 & 3 | O + E | radi(O)s + unde(F)iably | 15 + 5 + 15 + 6 = O |
12 & 5 | E + R | a(V)id + (C)oney | 5 + 18 + 22 + 3 = V |
15 & 2 | A + O | S(i)n + he(F)ted | 1 + 15 + 9 + 6 = E |
17 & 14 | T + E | (H)ailing + (T)ower | 20 + 5 + 8 + 20 = A |
18 & 15 | R + P | (J)ut + scou(T)ing | 18 + 16 + 10 + 20 = L |
21 & 8 | N + I | (W)ed + conce(R)t | 14 + 9 + 23 + 18 = L |
24 & 9 | P + E | S(L)id + (P)awed | 16 + 5 + 12 + 16 = W |
25 & 23 | U + A | (M)uck + Loo(F) | 21 + 1 + 13 + 6 = O |
29 & 26 | W + M | (L)ock + U(V) | 23 + 13 + 12 + 22 = R |
31 & 22 | A + L | s(I)x + (H)arrow | 1 + 12 + 9 + 8 = D |
33 & 16 | X + E | (L)at + ma(D)den | 24 + 5 + 12 + 4 = S |
The 12 clashing cells, in grid order, thus provide the instruction “Move all words”. The final solution was therefore a new fill of the grid using the original answers in new locations, completely eliminating clashes.
