Puzzle explanation

The puzzle was based on the poem by Alan Seeger that begins:

I have a rendezvous with Death
As some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade

The letters omitted from grid entries spelt out the first two lines minus the words italicised above, which appeared in clues, followed by “A Seeger”. For the third line, row 10 had the entry for “brine-pit” (spring) reversed and the one for “shadow” (shade) jumbled. The puzzle’s title was “Prevision” with the P latent, referring to the prophetic nature of Seeger’s poem: he died in the Battle of the Somme soon after writing it. This puzzle marked the centenary.
