The empty grid contained only 12, 6 and + formed by bars, hinting at the theme of “twelve and six”. In pre-decimal terms, 12 shillings and 6 pence was 5/8 of ONE POUND, hence the title. The puzzle was published on the 6th day of the 12th month.
