Carte Blanche by Chalicea

Puzzle explanation

The completed grid represents a map of France with seven names of areas appropriately positioned. (NICE was not included among these, being a city rather than an area, and slightly out of position.) Extra letters from wordplay gave “Shade abbreviated state and currency, six cells”, referring to the unclued entry RF (République Française) and EURO.
