Three clues used references to other answers and also gave messages as follows:

For 41ac, initials of the across clues with extra letters spelt “their poor clue”, an anagram of “Hercule Poirot”. For 18dn, the clues’ initials spelt “read the extra letters”; these spelt “unclued entry is an appropriate title”, leading to the Poirot short story The Double Clue.
